The spirit of Nigeria was alive and vibrant on October 1st, 2023, as the Nigerian Canadian community came together to celebrate the 63rd Independence Day of their beloved homeland. This year's celebration was nothing short of spectacular, featuring a grand flag-raising ceremony at Toronto City Hall-West, located at 100 Queen Street West. The event was a testament to the enduring bonds between Nigeria and its diaspora in Canada.

A Symbolic Start

The day began with speeches from the leadership of the Nigeria Canadians Association, multi talented Nigerian born kid star, Iyanuoluwa Adeshina led the opening with her instrumental rendition of the National anthems, the ceremonial hoisting of the Nigerian flag in front of Toronto City Hall by the NCA executives. The flag adorned with its green and white stripes, gently ascended, a symbol of Nigeria's unity and resilience. It was a proud moment for Nigerians and Nigerian Canadians alike, as they stood together, celebrating their heritage and the progress their nation has made over the past 63 years.

The 2023 Ankara Festival, held at the iconic 30 Gordon Mackay Street in Toronto, was an unforgettable celebration of African culture, community excellence, and the enduring pride of the African diaspora. Under the theme "Our Culture, Our Pride," this year's festival was a resounding success, showcasing the rich tapestry of African heritage and honoring individuals who have made significant contributions to their communities.

Red Carpet Glamour: A Grand Entrance at 5 PM

The festival began in grand style with a red-carpet, graced by celebrities, dignitaries, and attendees adorned in their finest Ankara-inspired ensembles. The red carpet became a runway of its own, where attendees showcased their creativity and fashion-forward styles, setting the stage for an evening of elegance and cultural appreciation.

Community Service Excellence: Honoring the Best Among Us

One of the festival's most poignant moments was the recognition of 32 exceptional individuals who have dedicated their lives to community service. These awardees, through their selfless contributions, have made a significant impact on the African and Canadian communities. Their tireless efforts were celebrated as a testament to the strength of community bonds and the power of collective action.

Distinguished Royalty and Honorary Guests

The festival was graced by esteemed honorary guests who added regal splendor to the occasion. His Royal Majesty, Oba Adeshina Sulaimon Raji, the Oniba of Iba Kingdom, served as the royal father of the day, and Chief Dr. Mrs. Kemi Koku assumed the esteemed role of mother of the day. Chief Paullicap Ebunoluwa Okeke, Chairman of the day, and Mr. Victor Adesunloye, the father of the day, lent their wisdom and presence to the festivities. The chairlady of the day, Chief Funmi Olumade, exuded grace and charisma, further enhancing the festival's prestige.

The festival's vibrant program was skillfully guided by accomplished MC- Akeem Ogunmilade and Fortune Ibare-Jones as co-Mc.. Their wit, charisma, and deep understanding of the festival's significance kept the audience engaged and entertained throughout the event.

Honoring the Late Artiste and Advocating for End to bullying.

In a poignant display of unity, concerned mothers and community stakeholders in Toronto came together for a solemn procession and candlelight event to honor the late Nigerian artiste, MohBad. This gathering, held in the heart of Toronto, was more than just a remembrance. The convener Aminat Ajoke Ali popularly known as Amino of Aminoglamour and CEO of OGA’S kitchen a doordash affiliate culinary servicing company best described the success of the movement for justice as a Community United in Grief.



Xphrame media was briefed of the action plan and followed the trend of the event from the WhatsApp group created to manage the logistics of the procession.
Prior to the build up, key players in events promotions, actors, entertainment, community and business stakeholders were contacted and added to the group in mass, within 3 hours of the idea inception, over 300 people had signified interest.

Play of interests
Mc Morris had initially incubated his plan to organize the rally however seeing the massive support Amino got as a rallying point accepted to join forces with her call to action. Prince George Entertainment also had his own plans, they all eventually combined forces to ensure a smooth procession.
Contrary to widespread reports, which looked like a visiting artiste organized the procession, the event was a joint effort of Nigerians living in Toronto who turned out genuinely for MohBad.
While it looks like Prince George leveraged on the procession to strategize for his next show with the said artiste.



Event day
The procession began with community members gathering at a central location, carrying candles that would later light up the night in a touching tribute to MohBad. It was a diverse assembly, reflecting the multicultural fabric of Toronto. Concerned mothers, fathers, young adults, and children came together, transcending generational and cultural boundaries to mourn the loss of a young talent whose music had touched hearts worldwide.
A Heartfelt Tribute
As the procession reached its destination, a central gathering point, attendees lit their candles, illuminating the night sky with a warm and poignant glow.
Words of Comfort and Hope
Community leaders and mental health advocates addressed the gathering, offering words of comfort and hope. They emphasized the importance of supporting one another, seeking help when needed, and breaking the stigma associated with bullying.



A Silent Reflection
The event concluded with a moment of silence, allowing attendees to reflect on their own experiences, the impact of MohBad's music. It served as a reminder that, in times of grief and adversity, communities can come together to support one another and advocate for change.

 NIGERIAN CANADIAN CANDLELIGHT PROCESSION & TRIBUTE FOR MOHBAD-TORONTO

In a moving display of unity, the Nigerian Canadian community in Toronto is coming together to demand justice in the wake of the tragic passing of the talented Nigerian artiste, MohBad. The procession is set to take place on the 23^{rd of} September,2023 at 3395 Weston Road North York, M9M 2V9, Ontario, and it seeks answers and accountability in this heartbreaking loss.

MohBad’s passing has left many in shock and mourning.

The march aims to show solidarity with Nigerians back home and to ensure that justice is served to all alleged people in his death. Participants will gather by 4pm at the above address and dress code is white.

The Nigerian Canadian community in Toronto, along with supporters and friends, believes that seeking justice is not only a tribute to MohBad's memory but also a statement against the injustices that affect us all from politics, governance, to entertainment from Bullies and snitches.

The "Justice for Late MohBad's" procession is open to everyone who shares the belief that justice should be served, regardless of nationality, ethnicity, or background.

In response to the ongoing refugee crises in Toronto, a remarkable initiative has emerged from the Ekiti Kete community in Canada. Recognizing the pressing need to address the challenges faced by refugees in the city, The Association has taken a proactive step by raising a committee dedicated to tackling this humanitarian issue. The refugee crises in Toronto have been a growing concern for some time, with an increasing number of people fleeing their countries due to conflict, persecution, and dire living conditions. The influx of refugees into the city has strained existing resources, making it difficult for the city authorities to fully address the needs of these vulnerable individuals and families.

The formation of the Ekiti Kete Canada committee is a testament to the strong sense of community and solidarity within the Ekiti Kete diaspora living in Canada. Ekiti Kete Canada is an organization comprising individuals from Ekiti State, Nigeria, who have united to promote their culture, provide support to one another, and contribute to the larger Canadian society as a charity organization.

                                     

The newly formed committee under the leadership of the president Barrister Anthony Adeshina aims to approach the refugee crises in Toronto with a comprehensive and compassionate strategy. Their mission is twofold:

1. Needs Assessment and Advocacy: The committee will conduct a thorough needs assessment of the refugees in Toronto to understand the challenges they face. This assessment will help identify the specific areas where support is most urgently required. Subsequently, the committee will advocate on behalf of refugees to raise awareness about their plight and encourage appropriate governmental and non-governmental agencies to take necessary action.

2. Resource Mobilization: Recognizing the strain on existing resources, Ekiti Kete Canada will mobilize its members and community networks to gather essential resources. These resources may include food and clothing support for refugee families. Additionally, the committee will explore fundraising opportunities to provide financial assistance where needed.

The formation of this committee reflects the true spirit of humanitarianism, where a group of individuals comes together, transcending geographical boundaries and cultural differences, to address a common cause. Ekiti Kete Canada's initiative is a shining example of how communities can play an active role in finding solutions to complex social issues.
